Knockout Door Stands Up To High Winds

Monday, August 25, 2008

Sussex, WI - For the past ten years impactable dock doors have enabled distribution centers, manufacturing plants, and other commercial facilities to minimize and even eliminate damage and downtime to their dock doors caused by forklift impacts. However, in the last few years facilities in a widening area of the country have shifted that concern to damage caused by hurricanes and other hazardous weather. The question is can an impactable door which withstands forklift damage hold up to the force of wind on the outside?

The answer is the TKO CruiserWeight® Dock Door with Windload Package.  TKO offers the only fully impactable, wind-load rated dock door in the industry.  The CruiserWeight’s Windload Package is specially designed to withstand both the positive and negative wind-load pressures associated with hurricanes, tornadoes or high wind gusts while still providing TKO’s legendary impact resistance to combat day-to-day damage from forklifts.

To maximize wind-load effectiveness, the TKO Windload Package includes multiple slide locks that run along the length of the track on both sides of the door. The slide locks are securely anchored to the panel on a steel plate that runs the height of the door panel and contains a flexible tubular frame reinforced with a steel angle.

However, the guide track is the most critical part of any wind resistant door system. The CruiserWeight’s Ultra High Molecular Weight (UHMW) polyethylene track is already the strongest, impact resistant track on the market, but unlike standard doors that utilize an all-metal track, TKO’s UHMW track can resume its profile after the wind dissipates, allowing the door to operate easily.

Throughout the Gulf region and other parts of the country facilities have suffered billions of dollars of damage because of high wind events. Those that utilize wind-load rated TKO CruiserWeight doors experience reduced property damage and are able to get operational more quickly after the storm.
